Hey guys! I'm in a bit of a tough spot financially, and am taking on furry, etc. art commissions!

Furry Reddit - Fri 16 Mar 2012 - 23:39

I am a young artist who is hoping to earn some extra money for art school, as my house recently flooded and it's been a bit hectic! I'm sorry for advertising on here, but since it's furry, esque art I hoped you guys would appreciate it. <3 I can draw dragons, anthro, quad... :) If you are interested, please PM me!

My deviantart: http://hato.deviantart.com

Here are some examples of what I can do!

Where are you guys from?

Furry Reddit - Fri 16 Mar 2012 - 18:11

I've been in the fandom for around 13 years now despite only being 20. Started young. I know a lot of furrs from around the world and always am curious in seeing where other furrs live. I personally live in Portland, Oregon. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4b/WillametteRvrPano_edit.jpg Where are you?

We need to talk about #redditfurs - offer your opinion please!

Furry Reddit - Fri 16 Mar 2012 - 13:25

To cut a long story short, there's been some drama in #redditfurs recently which ended in the channel being deregistered.

Hygen (C1de on Reddit) is the successor and talk about the owner should be somewhere else I feel. If you don't feel this way just post it here anyway :)

I think a discussion needs to happen. At the moment #redditfurs is considered SFW only. Adult topics and yiff are lumped together in to #reddityiff, and I'm not happy with that.

My opinion: I'm not happy with #redditfurs being strictly SFW. I feel that whilst it shouldn't be a place for 'yiff', it should just be a place for furs to talk, NSFW or not. The minority that wish to not go anywhere near anything adult should have their own channel because they are indeed a minority and the main channel shouldn't pander to it.

Some people have voiced concerns that a new '#redditsafe' would die off. If this is the case then why should the general channel be safe if nobody actually wants it like that?

tl;dr

  • Having the main channel SFW and getting judged for wanting to have regular 'adult' conversations annoys me,
  • I'm not saying it should be a place for yiff, that should still be elsewhere, but it seems ridiculous to act like everybody is a precious nubile 12 year old whose eyes must be covered for fear that they might catch glimpse of an uncovered table leg.

(I might edit to better convey my opinion but I won't make drastic changes)

The 2011 Ursa Major Nominees!

In-Fur-Nation - Fri 16 Mar 2012 - 04:16

The Anthropomorphic Literature and Arts Association (ALAA) announced the 2011 nominees for the Ursa Major Awards on March 15th, the day that voting for the final awards opened. Voting will be open until May 4th, then the winners will be announced at a ceremony at CaliFur.8 in Irvine on Saturday, June 2nd. What, you haven’t heard of the Ursa Major Awards? Shame on you! Here’s what they say on their web site: “More formally known as the Annual Anthropomorphic Literature and Arts Award, the Ursa Major Award is presented annually for excellence in the furry arts. It is intended as Anthropomorphic (a.k.a. Furry) Fandom’s equivalent of the Hugo Award ® presented by the World Science Fiction Society, mystery fandom’s Anthony Award, horror fandom’s Bram Stoker Award, and so forth. Anyone may nominate and vote for candidates for the Awards. These Awards are decided by the fans, not by a committee.” Last year more than 1,200 fur fans world wide took part in the final voting for the 2010 Ursa Major Awards. (To put that in perspective, that’s nearly one-quarter of the entire voting body of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — you know, the Oscar people?) Again from the Ursa Majors web site: “There are five nominees in each of eleven categories, except where there was a tie for fifth place. To be eligible, a work must have been released during the calendar year 2011; must include a non-human being given human attributes (anthropomorphic), which can be mental and/or physical; and must receive more than one nomination.”

While we're on this fursona kick, what was your your inspiration for your first sona?

Furry Reddit - Thu 15 Mar 2012 - 22:07

So I logged on to Neopets for the first time in, like, 5 years? Maybe longer? Not much has really changed since Viacom bought it. I put my ixi up for adoption because it's not like I'm really going to play again, but I simply couldn't put my lupe up for adoption, because I realized that subconsciously, he was the inspiration for my fursona.

I'm actually surprised that I remembered my password, but now I think that I might just keep that account as a memory of my past.

Tips on Drawing

Furry Reddit - Thu 15 Mar 2012 - 21:29

First post, woo! Sorry, now that /that's/ out of the way, onward...

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that's looking for tips on drawing. Drawing fur, muzzles, posing, etc. Some personal advice, or a link to advice and stuff, it'd be much appreciated. Others will probably appreciate it too. Thanks! :3
