Remember what Furaffinity was supposed to look like after the '09 $16k donation drive?
How mainstream are we now?
It has been about 4 years now since I joined the fandom. I have witnessed, as many have, the growth of this community to the point where conventions gather 3,000+ people. It is all over the world and gaining more positive media attention by the year (one could possibly argue). However, I still get the impression that if you were to "come out" as a furry, most people still would not understand what it is you are even admitting to.
So, how well known in your own culture (country, town, social group, etc.), is the furry fandom?

Has FurAffinity said why they don't use an adult web hosting service?
I haven't been on the FurAffinity forums, but have the leaders of FurAffinity (Dragoneer, admins, etc...) talked about why they don't use an adult web-host like other adult furry sites? I think everyone can see that the costs are much cheaper than managing your own hardware for a medium traffic site like this.

A killer magician, rogue dinosaur skeletons, and roaming gunslingers are no match for bovine Master Detective Adam Steer and his goofy sidekick Crazy Cal.” The stories here include “The Magician’s Trick”, “The Dino Sore Mystery”, and “The Moontana Murders”, as well as the extra short story “Whopper Fish”.
Struggling to find what it means to me to be a furry
Hey all!
First time posting on here so yay!
I guess I am here seeking advice on my current predicament. I was exposed to furry stuff online and became interested about 8 years ago (I'm 23 now). I have always been a lurker and have never really explored too deeply. The interest honestly began sexually and sort of evolved from there.
At this point I feel conflicted about my interest in being a furry. I have many close friends (none that know that I am a furry) and I am worried about what they would think if they knew. More so I don't want them to look at me any differently. It almost feels like I am coming out again.
In many ways it feels like a sexuality to me. It feels like something private but also part of my public self. Being a furry is a part of me but does not define me, similar to me being gay. I feel strange expressing my feelings of being a furry this way, especially when most people refer to it as a fandom.
Ideally I would like to try meeting and maybe eventually date another furry. I want to explore it as an interest, maybe go to a con in the future, continue looking at art online, explore some sexual aspects of it. But I don't want it to feel like a hidden part of me, just a part of me.
Sorry for dumping all of this but I was wondering if anyone else can relate to this and maybe give some guidance to a young fur.
Thanks!

Portrait of my SO that I'm using for a printmaking class. Any art nouveau fans out there?
Reminder: Please do not direct link to FurAffinity images
They will not appear in RES and will not load on the first click, so to most users it will appear as if the link is broken.
Thanks!
