Could some one or some people explain to me the appeal of fursuiting

I live in Los Angeles and I'm going to be getting a fursuit in the next month or so. I was wondering if any of you live in LA and are fursuiters as well. I'm kind of scared to go out by myself and I don't think I'd do well with meeting people at conventions. I would really appreciate if you knew anyone that did and if you could put me in contact with them. Thank you

I am an organizer of a furry con (Camp Feral!, around since 1998) and since 2009 we've put a lot of thought into our themes. We try to make them relevant (we're a camping con), original (ideas we've never seen before or new twists) and a part of more than just conbook cover art and t- shirt design.

Does the theme matter or are they just ways to make each year slightly different? Would a good theme convince you to attend? And otherwise, what part of con organizing interests you in a con? (By this I mean other than seeing friends or visiting the city. I'm talking about panels, activities and events or something the organizers do specifically)
