Furry fandom full of politically correct people.

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 22:53

I feel like leaving the fandom. Like seriously, all the people in there are all politically correct left-wing politics. I can't get along with most of them there, because I don't share all of the same political views and ideals. All I see is atheistic, politically correct, liberals, and if you don't agree with them you are a horrible person or something and they got to 1UP and correct you on a lot of things.

If I like more traditional things like a country lifestyle/music, or trucks, they'll have something negative or sarcastic to say about it or something.

Is there actually a furry site where I can find more neutral people?

New Layout

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 22:39

Find any bugs or have any suggestions? Leave them here and I'll look at them when I get back from buying a burger. (and if a mod could sticky this post, that'd be great)

Things that've been done.

 • Added the blue bar.
 • User flair.
 • Better thumbnails. (Thank you Marshykip)
 • A reminder to credit the artist.
 • Webcomic list
 • A recommend artist list (but it's gone the minute I see your MSpaint cub fetish artist on there)

What needs fixing.

 • Centering the score between the two upvotes. Fixed.
 • Fix user flair so people can just have text. A bit difficukt since it takes forever and a half for the emotes to update. Fixed (to an acceptable level. Might want to add a border or something later.)
 • the info bar text is shown over the My Subreddits dropdown. If it matters, I'm using Chrome with RES. http://puu.sh/5Pjpr.png
 • Eventually fix nightmode? Learning how to fix nightmode! Sort of fixed to a shitty degree. At least it's not god awful anymore.

how i went from fursona to identity

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 22:19

From what I observe, usually, it's the other way around. Folks initially get really wrapped up in their "fursona" and come to the conclusion of "oh, in reality I'm actually a human, and this fursona is just a creative outlet..." I seem to have taken that path in reverse. I saw my (bird)sona as just a creative outlet, but as my depression got overwhelming, I began, desperately, looking for a way to get in touch with my inner child. I figured my birdsona (a harpy eagle) was the best route. I started asking him what he was thinking about, what I should I do, how should I feel, etc.. Almost like a Jesus figure. I would ask him for help, for advice, for ways of sticking up to people who try to take advantage of me, but then I began to develop feelings of the fact that this birdsona was the same person as me. Thus as I began to ask him questions as, "what are you thinking about," they became questions such as "what do I want to think about?", and it has become easier to focus on the present moment, things like sensory information from my immediate environment. These are things that I think feed the identity, and I believe I took my projected birdsona to an inner-cognitive level, and learned to identify with it. I think it has helped me a lot with processing painful emotions. When I leave work, overwhelmingly feeling anxiety because of difficult coworkers, I ask my birdsona for advice, and the healing emotions come forth, to my amazement.

Fursuits, are they worth it?

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 16:30

So, I'm thinking of getting a fursuit head. I want to ask all tge suiters of this subreddit, what's it like? Obviously, suits cost a lot of money, so I want to know pros and cons. (although, right now I desperately want one x3)

PSA: /r/hardcoreaww is a thing

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 16:28

I had no idea this subreddit existed. It's /aww, but with big animals. Right now their front page is all about big cats being adorable. Y'know, like lions and stuff.

I know it isn't strictly furry. But it's of furry interest - at least, it was to me. Thought I'd go ahead and see if anyone else has been missing this subreddit all their life. If so, you're welcome. :)

I have an Anthrocon question...

Furry Reddit - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 08:02

IGNORE THE TEXT ONLY UNTIL THE LINE. Ok so I have a fursuit maker lined up to make my first one. A partial. What I wanted to know is that should I go for it and suit at Anthrocon 2014? It isn't set in stone that I am going but it is a possibility. Or should I wait to get the suit and just go to Anthrocon suit less? Mind you that it will be my first furcon.--------------------- Note: I am probably going to MWFF in 2014 and then Anthrocon 2015 with a suit. So I am a small bit disappointed I can't go to anthrocon next year but it is in high chance i will the year after.

Finding themselves within their fursuits

Furries In The Media - Fri 13 Dec 2013 - 07:08

Original article: http://sundial.csun.edu/2013/12/finding-themselves-within-their-fursuits/
A furry is a member of the furry fandom, a subculture consisting of people who are interested in anthropomorphic fictional characters. Photo credit: Crystal Lambert / Contributor

Subcultures, some with a rather odd nature, are emerging globally. Most can thank the Internet for their success; through forums and social sites, people with closet interests have been connecting in the public. One of the largest is the furry fandom.

Often called furries, this group grew out of a 1980s science fiction convention. Writer Steve Gallacci had a character drawing from his novel, which centered around anthropomorphic creatures. Anthropomorphic is defined as animals with human-like characteristics such as walking, talking, and intelligent thought. Throughout the decade the group gained more and more members until 1987 when the first convention was held and soon after the Internet became available to the public.

“I’m in the furry fandom because I can express myself, my love of cats, and my love of art and animation simultaneously,” said Mathew Netzley, a CSUN alumnus whose animal persona, or fursona, is an orange cat, even though he does not have a fur suit… yet. “I feel connected to the community, and have made many lasting friendships with wonderful people because of it. Especially now as an adult with an adult job and adult bills, it’s wonderful to have an escape and an excuse to get lost in the collective imagination where we can all become our talking animal fursonas. It’s fun, it’s silly, and you probably can’t call it normal, but that’s why I like it.”

Most furries have an emotional and/or spiritual connection with animals, and connect with their animal or animals through art or music. However, other furries may dress up in mascot-type outfits called fursuits. The fursuits are often an attention-grabbing aspect to the furry fandom.

“From a social psychological standpoint, people might seek out (the) furry fandom as a way to foster another social identity,” said Professor Debbie Ma, who teaches psychology at CSUN. “Humans possess a fundamental need to belong and this drives us to forge social relationships with others. We tend to prefer forming these connections with smaller sets of social groups.“

A member will spend anywhere between $500 and even more than $3,000 on a fursuit. Suits can be purchased online or at conventions, while some fursuits are handmade with assistance of online forums and advice.

“The furry fandom means many things to so many individuals,” said Desmond Rayford, a member of the furry fandom who wears a black and white cat with purple hair. “After stepping into and joining the fandom I would say that, to me, it means being around like-minded people who share your passion of seeing a smile on a stranger’s face.”

However, the suits are not the entire fandom. Most members discover their “true” selves by visiting online furry sites and participating in role-play games. The fandom has a following of art, animal, and music enthusiasts.
