Communication

Furry Reddit - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 16:03

What forms of it do you use and which do you avoid? Why so? From forums to chat sites to messengers and apps, just list a few and, if you're brave or browsing for company, your name on them.

Might as well kick it off. I love Skype. Shea_butryn, don't care who sees, it's probably my main way of communicating with anyone. Fine with f-list and have a surprising amount of friends tied to the site under several characters cause people there can be hella friendly. I try to avoid texting people who aren't immediately close and have a kik but I have a nasty penchant for flirting through that medium (iunno, something just clicks in me) so unless I know the person is into being hit on... Yeah. I actively avoid omegle and crap because I just hate how... Impersonal it is. I like a face, a personality, lengthy chats over quick "there and gone" things. I know it can be a platform through which you can meet others and get their info but I don't know, just not my thing.

Feel free to add me on the one I listed or throw me a PM for the others, even open me up to other options! Always looking for new things.

So many developer furs here, why not spend your spare time on something cool?

Furry Reddit - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 12:02

Saw so many people here are developers in this topic http://www.reddit.com/r/furry/comments/2fjt42/furries_what_is_your_profession/

Any of you want to work on a cool project? I am the head of the Fursuiter.net project, it is an awesome new site that is in its first steps of development and we could really do with a hand!

We need people with skills in Python, HTML, CSS/LOSS, SQLAlchemy, Redis etc Also need people with experience in technologies like OpenStack (or similar) and much more.

Even if you just want a reason to learn something new we can really do with a hand creating this awesome site. There are already a few devs working on it but we really do need more help from talented people.

If you are interested please drop me a message!

Thanks all Jack,

Book of the Month: Anthropomorphic Aliens, edited by Fred Patten

Furry Writers' Guild - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 09:01

Anthro Aliens coverSeptember’s Book of the Month is edited by FWG associate member Fred Patten and includes a story co-authored by member C. Alan Loewen.

Anthropomorphic animals have been imagined for as long as stories have been told. This is especially true of science fiction, where the endless possibilities of alien worlds make fertile ground for creativity.

Contained in these pages are stories from across the spectrum of science fiction, ranging from 1950 to 2013, and featuring feathers, fur, and scales. Each creature is a unique blend of humanity and the alien. Childlike or savage, independent or autocratic, they come in all sizes and shapes. Some are recognizable as reflections of humanity, while others are strange and wild creatures that defy description. All of them ask the same question: What kind of creatures will we find when we go to the stars?

The anthology features eleven stories:

  • “Mask of the Ferret” by Ken Pick & C. Alan Loewen
  • “The Inspector’s Teeth” by L. Sprague de Camp
  • “Specialist” by Robert Sheckley
  • “In Hoka Signo Vinces” by Poul Anderson & Gordon R. Dickson
  • “Point of Focus” by Robert Silverberg
  • “Novice” by James H. Schmitz
  • “What Really Matters” by Elizabeth McCoy
  • “Kings and Vagabonds” by Cairyn
  • “The King’s Dogs” by Phyllis Gotlieb
  • “A Touch of Blue: A Web Shifters Story” by Julie Czerneda
  • “Fly the Friendly Skies” by Bryan Feir

Cover art by Roz Gibson.

FURRIES! What is YOUR profession?

Furry Reddit - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 08:55

Hi furs, I was asking me if we are here a mixed bunch of people or not. I would say I'm your typical programmer, but I don't only programm at work anymore... Anyway just wanted to know how versatile we are. Don't worry there is no bad profession. And no, being a fox does not count as a profession.

King Leonidas: [turns back shouting] SPARTANS! What is YOUR profession?

Spartans: WAR! WAR! WAR!

It just fit so well...

It's Friday! What's your Fursona/You up to?

Furry Reddit - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 08:52

(I did this a couple months ago, figured I'd try it again.)

Assuming that your fursona is a character, what does their Friday routine look like? School? Job? Snuggly laziness?

If your fursona's not a character, then what are you up to this morning/afternoon/evening?

Review: ‘Mousemobile’ by Prudence Breitrose

Furry News Network - Fri 5 Sep 2014 - 05:38
Author: Fred I would like to thank Mister Twister for calling this title to my attention by reviewing the first book in this series, Mousenet. This is its sequel. Mousenet and Mousemobile are recommended for readers 8 to 12, grades 3 to 7. They are clearly juvenile fiction, but are well-written and imaginative enough that […]
