Guess I'm signing on now.

Furry Reddit - Sat 25 Oct 2014 - 11:52

So... hi there!

Wall of text coming through...

I'm not exactly sure why I am here, but hey, I actually stayed here. Been a lurker for a month now. I've posted a few meta posts so far.

Some might be able to recall me as one of those who wanted a day for writing stories. Others might remember me as the guy who recently posted a Homestuck-related thing (that got downvoted to zero, should've known about its infamy).

Now going into some history (please pardon me)...

Thinking through it, the first time I actually got attached to something that is (not exactly) furry is when I watched this movie around 10 years ago. It was probably the first movie I ever consciously considered my favorite (but I don't even know why).

I first became aware of the existence of the fandom in the Minecraft Forums, around the same time as I learned about another fandom.

Let's just say I've technically been in the fandom for probably a year, not because I've participated in the community (I've only started last month) or searched for porn (I'm not into sex in general; I'm probably asexual) but because I drew what would soon turn out to be my fox fursona in "Colors!" out of pure boredom, and then used him for mini-RPs in a section in the Minecraft Forums.

I have no flipping clue why I chose a fox. Really. I never really understood the way I pick things that I like.

I'd just like to note that the drawing was pretty much my first attempt at drawing anything resembling a person (including actual humans). Here's an updated version of him, having non-species consistent proportions among other things. Here's an even later rough sketch of him, which I think is significantly better than any of the previous ones. And he has a name: Treciva.

As OCs go, I eventually got attached to him (in a way). And then came my discovery of /r/furry/...

I've first joined this subreddit last month, trying to find some subreddits to get me started in redditing (wow such verb). I don't even know why I bothered looking at this subreddit, but one (very) probable reason is that I've recently watched GOTG at the time.

Feel free to blame Rocket Raccoon for this.

Since then, I've stayed here. The art is really awesome, cute, and sometimes thought-provoking. I also like the meta discussions; I like discussions about the concepts behind fandoms.

And now here I am, trying to find my place in such a huge community. Still trying to find that one spot where I'd be able to fit in. Been thinking about making a FA account, but I'm not much into porn, so maybe I'll need some help getting started with filters and such.

I'm just a random 15-year old (turning 16) guy, in case you were wondering. Figured most of you are definitely older than I am, so if ever you see me being too immature, don't even hesitate to talk to me about it.

Wala na akong maisip na ibang sasabihin.

Now, you can go clear all those random access memories. I just wanted to say:

Hi there guys! //waves a paw

1. Tell us about your most recent project (written or published). What inspired it?

My most recent story is a little something I’ve been working on called Vancouver Midnight. A lot of my stories are set in Toronto in my Lakeshore Universe, but for this I wanted to do something a little different. Since Vancouver is my favorite city, I wanted to write something that really showcases the love I have for traveling, what it’s like to be in such a wonderful place, and the sort of…grief you feel about having to leave. It’s a special kind of story, one that I haven’t really written before.

2. What’s your writing process like? Are you a “pantser,” an outliner, or something in between?

I’d definitely say an outliner. I plan almost everything out before I get to writing. Sometimes stuff just comes to me spontaneously while I’m actually writing (and that’s an amazing feeling), but the majority of the story is stuff that I actually plan out. I do this, because I like to have some direction, and I like to know where I’m going. Otherwise, with me being the easily distracted kind of person I am, I can end up losing sight of what I’m trying to do with this story or that story.

3. What’s your favorite kind of story to write?

Contemporary romance dramas. By far.

4. Which character from your work do you most identify with, and why? My Border Collie, Ian Morlen. He’s probably my most popular character. I feel like he’s me in so many ways; very down to earth, but stubborn, often conflicted, sometimes at odds with himself or his friends. The relationship he has with his boyfriend Jamie Readon (Golden Retriever) is something I wish I had. 5. Which authors or books have most influenced your work?

Within our fandom, probably Kyell Gold, by far. He writes exactly the kind of stuff I like to read. I mean in terms of just subject matter, he nails it. Romantic dramas are a huge part of his repertoire as an author, and the way he writes them is mesmerizing. If I have to cite books specifically, I would say Out Of Position and Bridges impacted (and influenced to an extent) me the most.

6. What’s the last book you read that you really loved? Probably Kyell’s Science Friction. 7. Besides writing, how do you like to spend your free time?

That’s quite a question. I’m also a dancer, a DJ, and a voice actor, so those take up quite a bit of my time. So much so that writing often takes a backseat, which is why I haven’t actually written much this year. I also love movies, TV, and video games. And with the limited free time I have outside of work and school, it’s a real balancing act trying to handle so many passions and hobbies.

8. Advice for other writers?

Write. Read. I can’t stress enough that if you want to be a good writer, you have a to read a lot. You have to see what good writing looks like, analyze it, find out why another writer does this or does that, and how it adds or takes away from their story.

9. Where can readers find your work?

10. What’s your favorite thing about the furry fandom?

That fact that we’re such a big community brimming with so many ideas and tons of creativity. That so many people can come from different backgrounds, all over the world to appreciate one thing, and that unlike other fandoms, all the content comes specifically from within, from us. We’re not a fandom that exists because of a particular TV show, video game, or movie. We exist because of an appreciation for something, a concept, an idea; one that means a little something different for everyone within, but one that we all appreciate nonetheless. We have writers, DJs, artists, fursuiters, voice actors, videographers, musicians, all sorts of “talent” that contributes and fuels our fandom in one way or another.

Plus, where can I dress up as a big sexy dingo, go crazy at the dances of a fur con, and have it be welcomed by everyone there?

Halloween draws closer! Anyone wanna buy some $10 themed art?

Furry Reddit - Sat 25 Oct 2014 - 02:45

Doing more commissions! Halloween themes and black cats and ghosts or something! Whatever you like! Also can do TF2 themed stuff, but like no one plays that here, so Halloween stuff. Doesn't have to be themed if you just want a normal picture.

Gallery here for examples. Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

Dinosaurs are Walking — Again

In-Fur-Nation - Sat 25 Oct 2014 - 01:35

Seemingly out of nowhere, Disney/Pixar have announced that the CGI animated feature The Good Dinosaur is back in production — and back on track for release in the winter of 2015, according to an article over at Cartoon Brew. After Disney removed director Bob Petersen from the project (he had co-directed Up and played the voice of Dug the dog) we didn’t hear much about Good Dinosaur for a while, as Disney/Pixar began advertising their next big project Inside Out. Now Disney/Pixar have announced that the new director of The Good Dinosaur will be Peter Sohn. He’s well known behind the scenes at Pixar, having worked in the art and story departments on several projects and directed the short film Partly Cloudy. He’s also known for his voice acting (he was Emile in Ratatouille and Squishy in Monsters University) and for being the body model for the character Russell in Up. Yes, really. With this announcement it now seems that Disney/Pixar will actually have two releases in 2015: Inside Out in June and The Good Dinosaur in November. Which puts the latter film right up against Kung Fu Panda 3, by the way. If you haven’t heard, The Good Dinosaur follows the adventures of a talking dinosaur family in modern times — on an alternate Earth where the great beasts never died out.
