Any furry live-action role-players around here?

Furry Reddit - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 18:13

Hey there /r/furry! New fur and first post ever, thought I may as well jump in with a question :)

I saw this amazing tail over on the LARP subreddit (something else I'm relatively new to) and I suddenly realised.. larp and furries go together quite well with the fantasy themes!

So, does anyone around here go to LARP events/groups as furry style characters? It would be interesting to see an entire faction based around a human-animal hybrid species. Not to mention awesome costumes combining elements of fursuits with leather armour and the like.

A closet furry needing some guidance.

Furry Reddit - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 17:38

First off hello and thank you for having the time to read this! :)

I've know about the furry fandom for roughly 6 years now and I have always loved the community and creativity that has come from it. However during all this time I have done nothing to be a part of it yet I still classed myself as a furry since then.

The thing is, after working for 3 years on a really low paid job I have decided to go get off my ass and go to university studying Digital and 3D art moving away from home 2 months ago. Moving from home has now broaden my friends even further. I've always wanted to create my own fursona, grab a suit and go to conventions and meet with people. But i'm afraid to. I have made many friends in the past and only very few of my close friends know i'm a furry. To put it blunt i'm very afraid of peoples options and what they would say if they found out. I feel that if i stay this way though, I will never go to such events nor make friends that are also furry if I'm cooped up like this.

Now don't get me wrong i'm not a depressed idiot wishing his life away, wanting to do life choices he should do without doing them. All my life I've always had many people say to me how do you smile so much and always friendly no matter what happens? I always look to have fun and joy in my life no matter what happens and I feel this shyness of me will be my downfall. Taking to heart what others say too hard inside.

On top of this I do not know any other furry than myself. I see videos, comments, artwork of people within the fandom and I wan to be a part of it. but i do not know how. I know speaking on forums and what not is a possibility but I feel like i'm in the dark. Unsure on what to do.

So I ask anyone who has broke this barrier before. What did you do help you feel comfortable in being more open? Things i should not do or should not say? I know telling people you dislike/trust would obviously be a bad idea. How did you respond to negativity that could have arose? Any other advice you can give me?

Thank you for any information you can provide me! :D

TL;DR I'm a closet furry who wishes to be part of the community but I need help/advice on joining in without being afraid of what people may say.

Sorry for my English. I'm dyslexic but i do try!

EDIT:Typo/Corrections

What is most important to you if you want buy a fursuit?

Furry Reddit - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 08:43

Say you've been wanting a fursuit.

You can ONLY pick 2 of these options: Cheap, Fast, and Good Quality.

  • "Cheap" will lower the price.
  • "Fast" assures you get it quickly.
  • "Good Quality" assures the costume will be comfy and well-made to accommodate you.

~~~~
  • If you don't choose "Cheap", the price will be higher.
  • If you don't choose "Fast", the costume may come many many months/possibly up to a year after you commission it.
  • If you don't choose "Good Quality", there could be design flaws, shortcuts, and inaccuracies that may throw off the costume a bit.
So which of the 2 options are MOST important to you? Cheap? Fast? Good Quality?
EDIT: It also is a point to notice that I have seen suits sell as soon as the owner received them, stating that "it took too long to get here and now I'm bored of the character/I have a new character."
That in itself makes me a little wary about time constraints.
Furry Dreams
Furry Reddit - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 06:31
so I just woke up from an awesome dream, I'd been teleported to the future and ended up in a shopping mall, in the mall there were gaming shops and other shops I didn't really notice, one shop caught my eye and I went to have a look. Inside the shop had a rectangular lay out with a changing room on the back left next to a door which I assume led to the storeroom. Lining the walls were DVDs and Blu-rays of various shows/animes. in the middle of the shop were baskets with fur suit heads, from the interaction I had with the woman running the store it seemed like you chose a head as a base and then could get a full suit made, unfortunately the dream didn't get that far. However I did wave at a fox fur suiter who came out of the changing rooms. :3
So thats my dream , have any of you had cool furry dreams? if so write them down in the comments below :D
Any raver/kandi-kid furries attending AC 2015?
Furry Reddit - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 04:51
Hey furs, Just wondering if there's any ravers that will be attending AC next year. I've been to a few ACs, though I haven't gone in the past couple years... My mate and I are planning on attending in 2015. The reason I ask is because we intend to hold kinda an ongoing room gathering with other furry ravers... Nothing too extravagant, music will be during the day mainly, at night if the neighbors are cool with it, not trying to piss off anyone around us. I'm a DJ and run my own sound/lighting business out here in Jersey, so I'll be bringing professional DJ gear (CDJ-2000s and a DJM-900 with some KRK monitors) and some lighting for our room, and we thought it would be fun for furries into EDM and raves to come hang out, jump on the CDJs and spin, or just randomly hang out between the festivities of AC. Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone out in Reddit land would be interested in stopping by.
And Speaking of Squirrels…
In-Fur-Nation - Sun 9 Nov 2014 - 02:57
One of Marvel’s most unusual super heroes (and that’s saying a lot!) is getting her own full-color series this January. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl follows the adventures of, who else, Squirrel Girl — perhaps the world’s most upbeat superhero. And with her accomplishments, who wouldn’t be? With the help of her squirrel-like powers and her trusty squirrel sidekick, Tiptoe, she’s taken on and defeated some of the Marvel Universe’s biggest and baddest super-villains. From Entertainment Weekly: “In Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, writer Ryan North [Adventure Time] and artist Erica Henderson [Quantum & Woody] take on the lighthearted superheroine whose mutant gene gives her an endearing cocktail of squirrel-related superpowers. When the comic book begins, she’s starting college—but in no time at all, Squirrel Girl is defending Earth from threats most cosmic.” Check out the interview with Ryan North over at Comic Book Resources.
