What's your fursona's story? Here's mine but poorly written.

Furry Reddit - Mon 16 Mar 2015 - 20:29

This is Senjin before he was involved with crime[1] , he was born in America and after he got out of college, decided to move to Japan. While in Japan Senjin discovered the world of drugs, mainly heroin, MDMA, and crystal meth. And where did he get these drugs? Yakuza street dealers. Being a hardcore addict, Senjin needed money to pay for these drugs, but he couldn't find a job that paid well enough. Homeless and desperate, Senjin spoke to Yakuza dealers about getting into the gang, being ethnically Japanese, Senjin was soon accepted. He was paid well with drugs and whores, (male whores to be specific) but after a few years, Senjin began to grow tired of this lifestyle. He wanted change, so he sold his remaining drugs and raised enough for a plane ticket back to his home city of Detroit. While he was in rehab, Senjin often visited his family. But the Japanese mafia couldn't simply let him go. Using their connections in America, higher ups ordered the kidnapping and blinding of Senjin. In Yakuza tradition, fingers are removed when someone fucks up, but this time they decided to remove Senjin's arm. After he recovered in a hospital, found bloody, beaten, and blind in an alley by a child, Senjin was given an artificial eye that works kind of like that guy's visor from Star Trek, he also received a robot arm thing. And here we are now. THE END.

edit: The year is 2555 in his universe

Can I Draw Your Character?

Furry Reddit - Mon 16 Mar 2015 - 16:47

So, I was wanting to get some drawing practice in today and didn't have any ideas. Thought I could maybe doodle some other people's characters for fun! Just need some kind of appearance and personality reference.

What do i need to know about the furry fandom?

Furry Reddit - Mon 16 Mar 2015 - 16:36

Hello!

I am a young filmmaker currently writing a new screenplay. In my story, one of the characters is a 20-something gay furry enthusiast. I wanted to make sure that I represented the furry fandom in a realistic way, but since I am not a furry, I wanted to go to the source. So; what do I need to know about the furry fandom? For example, what is a "typical" furry like? What are the misconceptions people might have? What myths about the fandom should I avoid? What are the most popular animal fursonas? What is a typical convention like? What is the weirdest thing you've witnessed there, etc.

Anything helps, thank you so much!

Art business practices – Commissioning an artist who then doesn't work on your commission.

Furry Reddit - Mon 16 Mar 2015 - 14:59

Hi guys! I'm just wondering about some general art business practices and how common they are. I've been in a few situations where I've paid for a commission, waited a few days, and then notice that the artist has been working on personal art instead of my commission.

I've also been in some situations where I've paid for a commission, watched it drawn and completed in a stream, and then been told that they'll upload it in a batch later with their other commissions (sometimes a week later or longer). They always offer to send me the art if I explicitly ask for it, so its not a huge deal.

It just seems really strange to me. In the first case, the artist posted a journal saying that they were open for some 'emergency'-ish commissions, and so I paid them up front, but still waited days for my commission while they streamed other peoples commissions (understandable, there's a queue) but then their own personal art. Like, imagine if you paid for a commission at a booth where the artist was actively advertising commissions. You hand them your money, and they start working on their personal art.

I'm not upset or anything, I'm just wondering how common this is and how others feel about it? Artists are free to draw what they want, but if they have paying customers waiting for art I feel like getting that out of the way first and then closing commissions for a while to work on personal art would be the legitimate thing to do. I hate feeling like a huge needy weirdo asking when my art will be worked on– I'm just excited! Another artist I recently commissioned has kept me up-to-date with exactly when they'll be able to start working on my art, which I love and I wish more artists would be more open about that (I get its hard when you have a list of things for multiple people, so a queue list is just as beneficial).

EDIT: I don't mean for this to be a rant-y thread! I'm just interested in seeing what others think, and hopefully this thread can help answer some questions from commissioners.
