Goodbye to a Couple of Bears

In-Fur-Nation - Thu 9 Apr 2015 - 01:59

Over the past few days two gentlemen passed away. Two gentlemen with very different but both very interesting connections to furry fandom. Stan Freberg, 88, was a man who “wore so many different hats throughout his career that he may as well have been a hat-maker. Satirist, songwriter, comedian, commercial producer, recording artist, actor, puppeteer, and voice artist only scratch the surface.” Among the myriad of voices he created some of the most memorable might be Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent (in both the puppet and animated versions of Beany & Cecil), the beaver in Disney’s Lady & the Tramp, and (from a very young age) Junior Bear, the lunk-headed young son of short-tempered Papa Bear in a series of cartoons by Chuck Jones.  (“C-A-T, dog… D-O-G, Rhode Island…”). Meanwhile Bob Walker also passed away, at the age of 54, apparently from a heart condition. Mr. Walker will best be remembered as co-director (with Aaron Blaise) of Disney’s 2003 2D animated film Brother Bear, but prior to that he had worked as a layout artist on numerous Disney animated projects including Rescuers Down Under (1990), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Mulan (1998), and Lilo & Stitch (2002). A native of Canada, Mr. Walker started his career working for Nelvana Animation on TV shows like The Raccoons. [Thanks to Cartoon Brew for providing this info.]

I've spent the last month creating a visual fursuit maker database, today I finished it!

134 makers and counting!
I always get people coming to me asking how to find and pick a maker, and it doesn't really help that other databases are just names and numbers. Pictures speak a thousand words, so I made a visual database to help everyone. It's got new makers, old makers, popular makers, unknown makers, you name it. They're all active ones too. I've also tagged them so you can browse by species, popularity, style, and more. Along with each maker's compilation is a little writeup about them, links to their websites, and reviews if any.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could help spread the word, I believe there's a lot of people that could use this! It's also great if you just like looking at different kinds of fursuits, it's insane how much variety is out there.

I'll also be making a guide on how to go about choosing your maker, so keep an eye out for that too!

Thanks ^^

Furry Reddit - Wed 8 Apr 2015 - 22:31

I have a fear of affection. I don't like showing affection, giving, or receiving any sort of affection. Sorry guys, no hugs for me. High five?

Any advice for a noob to the furry fandom?

Furry Reddit - Wed 8 Apr 2015 - 22:17

Hey guys, I've teetered on the outskirts of the furry world for a little while now, and am now finally taking a step into the community. Any general advice about the culture/community that a new-ish outsider pup may not know? Cheers. :)

Things to consider - First time fursuit commission

Furry Reddit - Wed 8 Apr 2015 - 21:43

As the title suggests, looking to commission my first fursuit sometime (ideally) in the next 2-4 months. I'm making final decisions on details of the suit still since i'm still finalizing some details on my fursona. I'm looking for questions I should think about asking my potential makers that a first-timer may overlook.

So far some things I've come up with are:

  • Feet construction (for the makers who don't really 'specify') - If it's built directly on a shoe or are made to slip on over shoes

  • Ensuring head can be made to accommodate glasses - I wear corrective lenses and while I go for a while without them I generally don't like to.

I have some additional details I want to cover with the potential makers with regards to the body suit. I'm looking to initially commission a partial then get a bodysuit sometime down the line. Or, depending on estimated time of completion might get it all at once (I'm working on getting back in shape, almost at my goal but want to make sure I can maintain things for a least a month or two). I don't want to end up sending measurements/DTD and have things change too drastically.

I know there are probably a dozen other things I could cover but these are the first few things that come to mind.

Any input is appreciated

How furry music would be different

Furry Reddit - Wed 8 Apr 2015 - 18:53

I have been seeing a fair amount of "How would a furry ____ be different", and I just wanted to talk about music for a second. Assuming that certain species retained their senses of sound, music could vastly differ from species to species, meaning that possibly a rat could simply not listen to a Dog's music, because there would be certain tones that the dog could hear but the rat could not. Any other ways you can think of music being different?

Edit: What we have learned so far: Birds would officially be the kings of music
