So, it's my third day here as an "active" member of the furry community. And thus far, you guys have been great. I really appreciate all the warm welcome, genuine greetings and most definitely the hugs!

I've been a passive part of the community for about five years or so. At 22, I first learned about the fandom after running across a series of Anthrocon convention videos on YouTube. At the time, I thought it was some sort of professional mascot convention. It wasn't until I started reading the comments section and started watching convention panel videos that I realized it was much, much more than that. This was an entire community of anthropomorphic enthusiasts and artists! And of course from there, one thing led to another as I ran across websites and media entirely centered around the furry fandom. I've always been drawn to and fascinated by anthropomorphic media (be it cartoon animations, comics, certain videogames, and so on) and it was awesome to find an internet culture which shared my interests. So I suppose you could say I was officially furry at 22, or maybe sooner, I'm not sure.

So now, some years later, at the age of 27, this blue/gray fox is finally taken the plunge into the community. Now is time to get off the sidelines and experience the culture first paw (and to you LURKERS, I advocate you do the same).

So, that's my short story but I want to hear yours. I'd love hear what you all have to share. Tell me about "the day you became a furry." What was it that drew you to the fandom and why?

Hello my beloveds!

I want to talk about something kinda personal with you.

You know that feeling where you can't quite understand what's going on? When your mind feels clouded and your scared of making a decision?

It's a pretty scary feeling.

Too some this may not sound like anything, but you'd be surprised at how scared some get.

I for one have felt this way since... Well since I was old enough to have conscious understanding of who I am. The person who took care of me at the time did little to try and help but that's changed and not the point.

This is about YOU.

Yes, you right there! I see you! Oh, you have some nice glasses! And hey their cutie ;3. I love short hair girls!

...Ahem.

What I'm getting at is this: Even though its scary that doesn't mean you have to suffer alone.

Pain shared with others is better then keeping it to yourself. Within that pain comes understanding. With understanding comes the possibility healing and relief of that shared pain, and maybe even friendship.

You can't let what's hurting you be your downfall. You have others with you that can, and will, support you when the opportunity comes. I sure as heck will!

Strength comes in many forms. I understand some prefer to do things themselves. And I respect that. And to those of you like this I can only ask you to fight on and say this to yourself if you start to feel doubt:

"I'm strong enough to make it this far, right?! Inches or feet- I'M STILL MAKING PROGRESS!"

Those inches become feet. And feet to yards and so on and so forth. (Or millimeter to centimeter for those used to the metric system.)

You just gotta keep on pushing. Maybe with another set of paws/hands helping you.

If by the end of this long, LONG post I made you feel anything positive, then well I've done something good. I'll try and post another in the next few days if everyone is okay with it :).

I've noticed something over the past few weeks and I have a feeling that it might come due to you guys, since I joined this sub about a month ago.

Over the course of the last weeks, I've noticed multiple times that I felt genuinly happy. Real moments, where a feeling of joy came over me. Not that my life was sad or negative before, I really did like it, and it wasn't negative in any way. Geez, that still sounds depressed. It honestly shouldn't sound that way. XD

However, over the last few weeks I have had these moments were I really felt "Holy shit, I love life."

So, although I guess there are more factors in my life that contributed to that, I really wanted to say: Thank you guys!
