EZwolf has released a preview trailer of Bitter Lake, a live-action movie written and directed by Shay, and scheduled to premier at Eurofurence 17 this August. [Cheetah/furrymedia]

The roughly one-hour film, shot in France and the Netherlands, features fursuits from Clockwork Creature Studios and a soundtrack by Fox Amoore (trailer material).

Actors include EZwolf, Rin, Forfaox and Stoelbank, aided by the voices of Shay, Dylan Nagel and Lucy RedPanda, with sound provided by KwisA. Nikoshi acted as best boy.

After more than a decade of peace... the proud and noble kingdom of Valanor is suddenly torn apart by a terrible civil war. After 12 years, when the dust settles and resources start to dwindle, the starving people of Valanor cry out for peace, forcing the leaders of Tier, Sinnah, Daneth and Osgard to lay down their arms and meet each other at the negotiation table.

As each province prepares an envoy to find a diplomatic solution at the Kingdom's only neutral ground, an ancient and dark organization plots its return.... Unbeknownst to the leaders of the four warring provinces, this old enemy will stop at nothing to crush any hope of lasting peace.

Can the four envoys put their old hatreds aside and forge a bond of trust? Or will those that crave the blood and terror of war get their way...? Whatever the outcome, the fate of Valanor will be decided at Bitter Lake.

On the one hand, I admire the effort. A one-hour film takes a lot of work, and the furry fandom needs more projects like this and more people who are willing and able to see things through to completion.

On the other hand, even though the fursuits appear really well made... it still looks like a bunch of people running around in animal costumes. Which is what it is, of course--but it's kind of hard to take seriously, as opposed to how it might look if the characters were CGI, for example.

I expect furries will like it (assuming the story and characters are good), but to anybody outside the fandom I fear this is going to look rather silly. And that's a shame, because we also need more stuff like this to show that we're not a fandom that's just about fetish porn and whining on the Internet.

From the comments of one crew member, it appears to be aimed at the fandom (like Eurofurence's annual puppet show).

I bet some parts of this will be really cheesy (no facial expressions) but it still looks awesome and I'd love to see it.

And the story...?

. . . is in the blockquote? It's not in the video preview because they haven't finished production yet.

I am amazed at how much work was put in this.

You know this is made by furries for furries, released at a furcon, has anthro characters and fursuits. It'll be interesting to see if this gets a Ursa Major Award or if it gets kicked out in favour of Alien Vs Predator or something.

Well, it has its silly-factor, simply because its a movie with a bunch of actors in fursuits, but I think I'll purchase it if for no other reason than to help support and fund further delving into the medium. They deserve credit for the effort and courage to put so much work into it, and whether its fantastic or really not, they won't try again unless they're supported by purchases. Likewise, if they find financial success, others will step in and offer competition and help raise the quality. I hope for this reason alone it sells well.

I really appreciate that they've used fursuits that above others are more convincing, making it easier to ignore the fact that they're fursuits, and have chosen to use a furry composer as well.

Wow, this looks like it has really good production values. Congratulations to all involved!
