Upcoming furry comics for September 2009 (Previews only)
Owing to bankruptcy of Comics Now!, I've missed a couple of months, but it's back to the furry trenches for July. Next month I try to be timelier.

DARK HORSE COMICS (http://www.darkhorse.com)
JUL090015 Beasts of Burden #1 (of 4) 32pg, color, $2.99
by Evan Dorkin (W) and Jill Thompson (P)
'When supernatural occurrences sweep the community of Burden Hill, it's up to a heroic gang of cats and dogs to keep residents safe from harm.
A bizarre disturbance leads these four-legged neighbors on a wild-goose chase into the depths of the nearby forest, where loyalties are tested and lives come to an abrupt end.
Award-winning comics creators Evan Dorkin (Milk & Cheese) and Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother) first introduced these heroic characters in the anthologies The Dark Horse Book of Hauntings, Witchcraft, the Dead, and Monsters, for which they won coveted Eisner Awards for Best Short Story and Best Painter.' Sounds good to me; I like both creators' work.
JUL090054 Usagi Yojimbo: Yokai hc, 6"x9", 64pg, color $14.95
by Stan Sakai
'Yokai are the monsters, demons, and spirits of Japanese folklore, such as the shape-changing kitsune, the obakeneko demon cats, and the evil oni ogres.' Usagi has to take 'em all on with the help of Sasuke the Demon Queller, in a 25th-anniversary special.
JUL090055 Usagi Yojimbo #123 24pg, b&w $3.50
by Stan Sakai
'Before wandering the country as a masterless samurai, Usagi served Lord Mifune. But Mifune was killed in battle against the forces of the Dark Lord, Hikiji, leaving Usagi a ronin.
Years later, Usagi meets some old comrades from his days as Mifune's retainer. The bereaved warriors have long been trying to avenge their lord by killing Hikiji, but over the years their numbers have dwindled [from 47?]. Now they have the perfect opportunity, and Usagi is pivotal to their plans.'
Beanworld Book 3: Remember Here When You Are There! hc, 6"x9", 186pg, b&w
by Larry Marder
'Fifteen years in the making, Remember Here When You Are There! completes the "Springtime" cycle of stories, in which the perfect harmony of the Beanworld is interrupted for the first time.
Larry Marder's Beanworld is a most peculiar comic book experience, inspired by equal parts Jack Kirby, Native American mythology, Marcel Duchamp, and Robert Crumb. Now, Marder returns to his sui generis creation with the first in a series of original Beanworld graphic novels!
Chock full of characters new and old, this volume sees the Pod'l'pool Cuties learn to fly; Beanish efforts to write a love song; and the long-anticipated return of Heyoka and the Big Fish to the Beanworld!' Recommended, though I'm waiting for the paperback.

A lighthearted and humorous tale that shows how wrong it is to be a bully, as well as how lonely being a bully can be.' The summary doesn't impress me but I *love* the title.
