Yay for Ferrets!

Morphicon is pleased to announce that our charity endeavours for 2006 will benefit the Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter, of Cleveland OH. Ferrets Unlimited is a volunteer shelter which finds homes for abandoned Ferrets, and which provides a permanent loving home for those for whom an adoptee can't be found. They'll be presenting informational panels on Ferrets as pets, and also conducting presentations on how you can help homeless Ferrets by volunteering at the shelter or adopting one.

Ferrets unlimited needs stuff, and will be glad to accept in-kind donations. Please see their needs page for what they currently need. You can bring in-kind donations to the con, but if you're in the Cleveland area, please consider bringing stuff directly to them, to save you both having to haul it around.

Hypertrophe!

Morphicon is pleased to announce a new class of membership, the "Hypertrophe". You get all the stuff that Patrons get (a special button, invitation to the ice cream social, one or more limited edition art prints, preferential seating at events, invitation to the GoH Dinner, a free Morphicon 2006 t-shirt, and at least one special limited edition art benefit), plus a "truly gianormous" collectible laminated badge*, special recognition in the conbook with your own bio, a limited edition Button of
Doom, a personalized gift from each of two of our guests of honor, first-class treatment at all events and functions, and a special secret surprise.

* "Truly gianormous" is Trickster's description of this thing. I'd describe it as "really big". If Doug Winger had a thing for con badges, this is how he'd draw them.

Schedule of Upcoming Events:

Bowling at the Columbus Bowling Palace. (Sat Dec 3)
>>> 6:30pm. $4.50 for one game, possible discount (join Morphicon mailing list for details). A possible fursuiting event, if permission can be gained from the Bowling Palace.

Pirate Christmas! (Sat Dec 31)
>>> ARRRRR! Gift-stealing party and New Year's countdown (if you want to participate in the gift portion, bring a gift--but it can be a hand-me-down and shouldn't be too expensive).

Groundhog's Eve Skating! (Wed Feb 1)
>>> At United Skates of America in Bexley (tentative date). Pretend that the bruises you'll see the next day are Groundhog shadows!

2006 T-Shirt Contest

As is our customary practice, we're offering a special award to the winner of our t-shirt contest. This year, it will be a full-fledged Patron membership to Morphicon 2006! All you have to do is submit a high-resolution line-art image to publications. The deadline is January 31, 2006, so don't delay!

Submissions should be related to the theme, "The Food Chain". You may interpret the theme however you wish, but please limit submissions to all-audiences appropriate content. Even if you don't win, we'll put your submission into our conbook, so either way you'll get to see your work in print.

We're also interested in seeing original prose, poetry, and other artwork around the "Food Chain" theme, just for our conbook. If your work doesn't fit the t-shirt contest (because it's not artwork, or wouldn't look good on a shirt, or it's grayscale rather than line art) then you can submit it directly to publications staff for possible inclusion in the conbook.

Atomic Battle of DOOM!

Sunday night will feature the first-ever Atomic Battle of DOOM! Bring your Nerf(tm) and Koosh(tm) weapons, or make a foam sword at our Foam Sword Workshop(tm), and have it out with your fellow congoers in a mighty melee. If there's sufficient interest to warrant it, a separate battle (guns only - no swords) for fursuiters may be added as well.

Artists' Activities

Dragongirl pointed out to us last year that we didn't really have any activities scheduled for the artists that didn't conflict with the Dealers' Den hours. We threw in the Art Schmooze on short notice last year, and it's returning this year. In addition to the Saturday night Art Schmooze, we're also holding our Friday night cake decorating contest after the Dealers' Den closes. This not only allows for more artists to participate, but also means that there'll be cake to eat throughout the con, rather than only on Sunday afternoon. Given a bit of time, we're liable to come up with a sunday evening activity as well.
