Midwest Furfest Newsletter, October 2001
There's still time for mail-in registration at Midwest Furfest.
Note from Gene: Click "Read more..." for the Furfest newsletter including costs, URLs, and other information about the convention.
Greetings from Midwest FurFest! The deadline for cheap pre-registrations has come and gone, so you're out of luck for MFF this year, right?
As John McLaughlin once said, WRONG! You can still pre-register if you mail
in your form as soon a possible and include a check for the at-the-door
rate, $40. The deadline for mail-in registration is November 1. As always,
you can find registration forms at http://www.furfest.org/registration. You
can also just wait until the convention and register at the door, but hey,
where's the fun in that?

Want to know more about how registration at Midwest FurFest is going to
work? Want to know what the hours of registration will be? Want to know
why your registration confirmation hasn't arrived yet? Find out the answers
to these and more in the MFF Registration Frequently Asked Questions List!

Hotel reservations - get 'em in!
There are plenty of rooms available at our home base, the Sheraton Chicago
Northwest in Arlington Heights, but time is running short to ensure you get
what you want - the deadline for the con rate is November 1. Call
847-394-2000 to reserve your room at the special Midwest FurFest rate of
$79, 1 or 2 beds. The local hotel no longer takes reservations on its own,
but that number will connect you to a central reservation desk with which we
've encountered no problems so far. Just make sure they know you're with
FurFest and you want the special rate.
Tracks! Tracks! Tracks!
The primordial soup of MFF programming is congealing - the programming grid
is now full! We'll have something for everyone this year, be you a
fursuiter, artist, writer or diehard fan. Proof? Go to http://www.furfest.org and
peruse the various tracks now - we've recently updated the site to include
brief rundowns of current confirmed panels and SIGs.
Art Show
We're still selling panels in what is turning out to be an impressive art
show! However, the deadline for mail-in artists has passed. You may either
bring your art to MFF or have an agent do it for you. Contact Jim Doolittle
for art show information at artshow@furfest.org. Also, artshow forms are
available at http://www.furfest.org/events/artshow.
Dealers' Den
The Dealers' Den for MFF 2001 is now full. If you would like to be placed
on the waiting list, let us know at dealers@furfest.org. Information on
table costs and downloadable versions of the dealer registration forms are
available on the website. The dealers are now listed on the website too! To
see if your favorite dealer will be there, go to http://www.furfest.org.
Charity Auction
We're always on the lookout for artwork (original artwork is wonderful!),
custom services such as art or fursuit commissions, and other cool items for
the MFF charity auction. This year we're benefitting Animals for Awareness
(http://www.animalsforawareness.org), and we have a chance to make a sizable impact
on their noble cause. Please notify auction director Mirko
(auction@furfest.org) if you have something to contribute.
Party floor
If you are planning to have a party, or would like to be on the party floor,
please contact the party liaison at parties@furfest.org.
Thursday Night Mixer
A reminder that if you're arriving Thursday night you don't have to just sit around and wonder what to do - you can join us for the near-legendary (because we say so) MFF Thursday Night Mixer! Starting at 7:00 PM in the Con Suite (Room 222), we'll have drinks and munchies and socializing, plus we'll have Registration open there so you can avoid the lines on Friday! See you there!
Travel
We're amassing some key information you need to know about air travel and
other means of getting to MFF. Monitor http://www.furfest.org/travel for the
latest.
Mailing lists
Midwest FurFest has two mailing lists available: MFF-Announce is for
official announcements only. You should receive only a few messages per
month maximum from this list.
MFF-Talk is a discussion list, a place to ask questions or talk about
Midwest FurFest. The number of messages on this list will depend on the
subscribers. There is also a digest format available for this list.
You can subscribe to any of these lists by emailing major@furfest.org with
any subject, and in the message put:
subscribe mff-announce or subscribe mff-talk or
subscribe mff-talk-digest
When you subscribe to either list, information will be sent to you on how to
unsubscribe, should you wish to do so later. 'Major' (Majordomo) is an
automated process, you should not send mail to 'major' other than subscribe,
unsubscribe, and other commands that will be explained in your welcome
message. Any questions about 'Major' may be directed to puma@catbox.com

ANY QUESTIONS? Perhaps our website has the answer! It's being updated by the
week, so stay tuned at:
It includes contact addresses for many MFF staffers too, as well as a "who's
going" page and pages for ride and room shares.
