I noticed a lot of people have been making a lot of "Any furs in ___?" posts. I have a solution!

Furry Reddit - Sun 27 May 2012 - 03:08

So this might make things a little easier for everyone.

Here we go. Follow this link. It's a form! It's pretty simple - there's five questions. They are:

  1. What is the name of your account on Reddit?
  2. What continent are you from?
  3. What country are you from?
  4. What state/province are you from? (if applicable)
  5. What city are you from? [OPTIONAL - can't stress that enough. Privacy is important!]

Responses are recorded in this spreadsheet.

If there are people near you, you can contact them via message on Reddit. Obviously, that's what the first question was for.

EDIT: If you submitted information that you would like removed, please message me! I'm usually very quick about these types of things.

Update 1 (5/27/2012): OH HEY LOOK. You can sort by continent/country/state/etc using the tabs on the button of spreadsheet. Handy, huh?

Update 2 (5/27/2012): I've got a formula that creates Google Maps queries on the right, but I still have yet to find and I found a way to do it automatically.

If you want to access these pages without having to come to this page each time:

Form: http://bit.ly/RedditFurFinder

Spreadsheet: http://bit.ly/RFFResults

Note: I know that the IFPL exists, but no one wants to make an account and give away their exact address. Also, I gain no karma for this, it's a self post. I thought it would be helpful!

A point I've wanted to make about us for a while now.

Furry Reddit - Sun 27 May 2012 - 01:45

Alright, I'm sure all of you have seen or been that guy who says "Furries are jerks and that's why I don't like being a furry". Yes that statement is very broad, and there are tons of different ways and people who use it, but most of us have seen it in some form or other.

I feel that something not a lot of the people who say this realize this: People can be jerks. There are idiots, and douchebags, and people who're just plain mean out there. Does that make all of humanity "jerks"? No. Just like any other fandom, we have people who are mean and assholes. But does that mean we should immediately jump to the conclusion that every other fur around us is one of these people? No! The thing with jerks is that they are often louder than nice people. If you ignore the people who are being assholes, then you can see the fandom for what it really is, and find all of the nice people here who will treat you with respect.

Feel free to shower me with downvotes, but I feel like there is way too much alienation here in a place where I would expect us to be a community.

So many good videos...

Furry Reddit - Sun 27 May 2012 - 00:15

Came across a whole scourge of great animations. Decided to list them all in one topic for you.

Reversal of the Heart Dragons, humans, and magic. Not your typical story about them.

Haoma Plantmorphs doing... Plantmorphy things... Possibly nsfw

Mau Betrayal among cats in egypt

Red Cute retelling of little red riding hood

Ritterschlag Dragon tries to teach its child a classy trick.

Sintel Child befriends dragon. Adventure ensues. If you only watch one video in this list, make it this one.

Big Catch One shark tries for the impossible. Humor.

Red Rabbit One man's huge secret...

Legend of the Scarecrow A Lonely scarecrow just wants a friend.

Wild Dogs Can't a dog just get a bone?

Fun Down Unda A furry just wants a ride! SICK HUMOR

The Wolves of the Mist Pretty much what happens when you mix Final Fantasy fandom with canines. Seems to be an ongoing youtube series. Amazing production quality. wolvesofthemist.com for more info/parts.

Socket In a world where everyone has a socket, and you just need to plug into something...

Fore Next time, make sure you have the koalafications.

Mytho Logique The Invention of Lying, Mount Olympus style.

Vulpus Vulpus Story of a two-legged wolf.

Pig Me Story of a pig that just wanted to be a pet. Dark humor (after credits)

The Monk and the Monkey Self explanatory

Mariza About a man and his donkey

... Well I've listed too many. Hope you didn't want to go to sleep tonight. ???

EDIT:

I lied. Here's some more.

The White Wolf with the Blue Eyes also a youtube series. This episode has no voices, but future ones do. This series also has a lot of AMVs for it. Apparently it's got a big following? xP

Wolves Destiny another youtube series. It's up to at least episode 7.

what would you do if you paid for a commission and you hated what they gave you?

Furry Reddit - Sat 26 May 2012 - 19:31

I'm just wondering, I've never gotten a commission that I hated but what if something about the way they drew your character just was not doing it for you? would it be rude to ask them to change it a little? or just shut up and pretend you like it?

Furry Is Grieving after Mate's Death in a Car Accident

Ask Papabear - Sat 26 May 2012 - 15:35
Papabear,

Recently (a little over 2 months ago) my mate passed away in a car accident. Now I've been trying to move on but it honestly just feels like I've hit a brick wall. I have a few friends but I still feel that something is missing. I used to be happy and calm. Now I've become angry, depressed(severely), and at certain times violent. And a lot of the places around here that I used to go to with her trigger those emotions. I don't want to be like this but I don't know what to do. And it seems that even my meditation(not medication) doesn't work anymore and my insomnia has now become worse. Do you have any suggestions that could help me a little bit?

--Kaza

Dear Kaza,

I am so sorry for your loss.  Nothing Papabear can say will ease the pain of losing a mate or other loved one, but I can give you a little advice here.  First of all, it has only been two months. That is not a very long time.  Did you know that it typically takes two years for the average person to even begin to adjust to a major life change, such as a death of a loved one or a divorce?

Anger and depression are natural emotions to be experiencing right now.  Your violent moods are connected to this.  Do not berate yourself for feeling this way; you are feeling angry at the injustice of losing a loved one so early in your life, and perhaps even some "survivor guilt," as in "Why is he dead and not me?"  You might be familiar with the stages of adjusting to loss, first put forward by psychologist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in 1969:

  1. Denial: “This can’t be happening to me.”
  2. Anger: “Why is this happening? Who is to blame?”
  3. Bargaining: “Make this not happen, and in return I will ____.”
  4. Depression: “I’m too sad to do anything.”
  5. Acceptance: “I’m at peace with what has happened.”

There is no order or timeline for this process, and sometimes the order is mixed around a little, but you can expect these stages to occur in your immediate life.  Eventually, you will reach stage 5.  This does not mean you will not still feel some pain and loss, or even sadness, but when you get to stage 5 you will be able to cope with the loss and move on with your life.

So, recognizing that you are not acting inappropriately is the first step. Now, you ask what you can do about it? Meditation doesn't seem to be working for you, but there are other things you can try. First of all, do not try to manage your grief by yourself. Seek out other people to talk to. Do you belong to a church or synagogue? That would be an excellent place to go; talk to your minister or rabbi. Many religious organizations have groups where you can go for support. If not, look in your local newspaper. The community sections of newspapers often announce meetings for grief counseling and group support.

Also, try and get back to a routine of daily life. It might be that the routine you enjoyed with your mate has been disrupted. You will need to find a new routine and begin to move on with your life.  Finding hobbies, and doing charity work can also be immensely therapeutic.  Dr. Lou LaGrand has written a very nice summary of things you can try to adjust to this new time in your life: http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Top-10-Things-You-Can-Do-To-Cope-with-the-Death-of-a-Loved-One&id=524392.

Good luck, Kaza. I would love to hear from you again on how you are doing.
