Introduction for Fred Patten Presents – History of Furry Publishing.

Dogpatch Press - Mon 2 Feb 2015 - 10:11
It’s an honor to host articles by Fred Patten, “Furry’s favorite reviewer and historian.”  There’s minimal management, supporting him to post what he wants.  Many are reviews and some are in depth writing from his experienced perspective.  Those are the ones I want to select for a new feature. FRED PATTEN PRESENTS joins other features: INTERVIEWS FOR FANS AND FURRIES - THE “FURCLUB” SURVEY – and […]

What do you look for in a reference sheet?

Furry Reddit - Mon 2 Feb 2015 - 06:36

From the perspective of anyone- artists, commissioners, lurkers, etc.

I'm in the process of making my first one and I'm kind of stuck on what to put in it, so I'm looking for some insight!

Grand Prix San Jose

Furry Reddit - Mon 2 Feb 2015 - 03:25

Probably should've posted this at the event bu oh well. Just being curious if any other Magic Playing fuzzbutts made their way to GP San Jose and how;d ya do. My team went 4/3/0 in the main event before we dropped, so not to bad but pretty good, was 4/1 for a minute there.

Questions (from outsider)

Furry Reddit - Mon 2 Feb 2015 - 02:10

I've been trying to find answers to a few questions I have by looking through this subreddit, but so far haven't had much success.

First, though, I will say that while I'm not a furry, as someone who really struggles socially I think I can see some of the appeal of at least some aspects of the community (eg. fursuits, not that I could ever justify paying for one). Also, despite being an outsider, I like to think of myself as open-minded, so please don't think I'm judging you all.

With that said, my main question would probably be this: How much does being a furry revolve around struggling socially with interactions in person/without a suit?

Also, is most people in the community not having fursuits more the result of cost or choice? In other words, if everyone could get their desired suit without cost being an issue, would they? Or have many people just decided against owning one for reasons other than expense?

I hope nobody minds me making inquiries as an outsider, and that the first question wasn't too personal.

Edit – TL;DR:
Three questions:
• How common is an appeal for having another way to interact socially in the fandom, especially for those who struggle socially?
• How many in the community would own their desired fursuit if they could get one for free, no matter how expensive it was?
• Is there some way fursuits could be made more accessible to those who couldn't/wouldn't pay thousands for one, without losing the appeal of them?

Thanks!

Edit: So, from the responses, would saying "The only consensus is that there is no consensus" be accurate? Also, personally the "fursuiters" (sorry if that's wrong term to use) seem to be the public face of sorts for your community to many outsiders like myself (for better or worse).
